Shavaun joined the Fund in 2020 and brings more than a decade of experience in food systems, cooperative economics, and communications strategy to her role. She co-leads the Fund's initiatives to resource grassroots and frontline food and farm system change work and manages the Fund's participatory decision-making process.
Prior to the Fund, Shavaun was Interim Co-Director and Membership Director of the New Economy Coalition, where she worked with the coalition's 210 member organizations to build the scale and power of the new economy -- a vision for the future where people control their economies through a culture of mutual aid, cooperative and public ownership, and radical democracy. Shavaun also formerly co-led the grassroots advocacy efforts of the National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition. At NSAC she worked with farmers and advocates to create and amplify grassroots campaigns that helped secure federal legislative wins for sustainable farmers. Shavaun lives in her hometown of Louisville, KY, where she teaches yoga and is active with a Black-led childcare and family collective she helped co-create in 2017, Play Cousins Collective.
